Summary
PURPOSE: To evaluate near vision satisfaction and quality of vision outcomes following implantation of a full range of vision (FRoV) or monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) in cataract patients.
METHODS: Prospective, multicentre, controlled study of enVista Envy (N=110) or enVista monofocal IOL (N=50). Validated NAVQ and QoV questionnaires were used to assess outcomes at 120–180 days postoperative.
RESULTS: The percentage of patients reporting little to no bothersomeness for glares, starbursts, and halos were 95.5%, 93.7% and 88.1% in FRoV versus 96.2%, 100% and 94.2% in monofocals (p>0.1 all cases). Only halos were reported to be more frequent (70.0% vs 94.2%, p=0.0005) and severe (76.3% vs 92.3%, p=0.015). Significantly more FRoV patients performed near-vision tasks spectacle-free (91.7 vs. 51.0%, p<0.0001) and were satisfied with their near-vision 93 vs. 56 p><0.0001).>0.0001).>0.0001)>
CONCLUSION: The novel FRoV IOL led to higher rates of spectacle independence and satisfaction with near vision. While halos were reported to be more frequent and severe, the rate of patients reporting little to no bothersomeness to each of glares, starbursts and halos was not different between FRoV and monofocal groups at 120–180 days.
