Summary

PURPOSE: Poor ocular surface health in dry eye (DE) can impact postsurgical outcomes. Blink Triple Care (BTC) drops combine a lubricant (polyethylene glycol 400) with a natural-oil nano-emulsion and hyaluronic acid in a preservative-free formulation to promote ocular surface homeostasis. This study evaluated outcomes and satisfaction with BTC in DE.

METHODS: In this prospective, cross-sectional survey study in the US, adult self-identified DE sufferers were recruited from a representative panel. Eligible participants had used over-the-counter artificial tears in the prior 6 months, with confirmed DE symptoms documented by ocular surface disease index (OSDI) scores. Exclusion criteria were use of prescription eye drops, ocular surgery within the past 6 months, or allergy to formulation ingredients. Participants received a masked bottle with 1–2 drops to be administered once in the morning. Surveys covering global symptoms, DE-specific symptoms, and satisfaction were completed immediately after and at 4, 8, and 10 hours (h) after instillation.

RESULTS: Among participants (N=622), baseline OSDI scores indicated mild, moderate, or moderate/severe DE in 32%, 34%, and 34% of participants, respectively. Immediately after use, 88% of participants reported that their eyes felt better. This level of agreement (sum of ‘agree’ and ‘strongly agree’) was maintained across all timepoints (4h, 92%; 8h, 90%; 10h, 91%). Similarly, agreement rates were high and durable across key DE attributes at immediate, 4-, 8-, and 10-h timepoints: “my eyes feel moisturized” (90%, 83%, 80%, and 79%, respectively) and “my eyes feel comfortable” (88%, 87%, 83%, and 84%, respectively). At 10h, 81% of participants agreed that BTC “provides long-lasting relief”.

CONCLUSION: These real-world findings highlight the durable relief provided by BTC, which combines a natural-oil nano-emulsion with hyaluronic acid to lubricate the ocular surface and protect against tear evaporation. Patient-reported high performance suggests BTC can provide relief from mild-to-moderate dry eye symptoms for up to 10 hours following instillation.
